A young policeman is one of three killed in a night operation. His bosses say it was a training accident in the Alps. Local provencale farmers know it was murder on the Camargue beach at Beauduc. The boy’s grandfather asks the retired Peter Smith and his old friend Gentry to find out the truth. Smith accepts as he has strong feelings about friendship, trust and betrayal.
Smith has no interest in solving whatever was the major crime behind these events but he wants to honour his commitment to the young Policeman’s grandfather. What he fails to realize is that in all probability the events at Beauduc are a diversion to a much greater conspiracy.
